THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Node.js Software Engineer with strong backend development skills and a solid understanding of platform security to build scalable, reliable, and secure applications across APIs and cloud infrastructure. You will develop cloud-native solutions, apply security best practices, and collaborate with international teams to support life sciences applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design scalable system architectures and develop high-quality Node.js applications, RESTful APIs, and microservices.

  • Implement security best practices across applications, APIs, and cloud services, including authentication, authorization, session management, secrets management, and encryption.

  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities through secure coding practices, code reviews, dependency management, and appropriate security testing.

  • Monitor application health, investigate production incidents, troubleshoot system issues, and improve application reliability.

  • Design and optimize database integrations, query performance, and cloud infrastructure using AWS services.

  • Improve system performance and scalability through effective caching, resource optimization, and reliable system design.

  • Ensure software quality through unit and integration testing, code reviews, deployment practices, and technical documentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to Agile development activities, and mentor less-experienced engineers.

  • Work with international teams across US and European time zones when required.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Must-have

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years of hands-on Node.js development.

  • Strong understanding of application and API security, including authentication, authorization, OWASP Top 10, input validation, and session management.

  • Experience with cloud monitoring, incident response, and production troubleshooting.

  • Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB, including query optimization, performance tuning, and scalability.

  • Proven experience designing and developing scalable RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with AWS services, including S3, EC2, Auto Scaling Groups (ASG), SQS, VPC, Security Groups, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, CloudTrail, and WAF.

  • Experience with Redis and Amazon ElastiCache for application performance and system throughput optimization.

  • Experience with unit and integration testing using Mocha, Chai, or Jest, and familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD).

  • Strong Linux troubleshooting skills and working knowledge of Python.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and professional working proficiency in English.

  • Flexibility to collaborate with international teams across US and European time zones when required.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with MLOps, machine learning infrastructure, or model training.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude to understand codebases, troubleshoot issues, and improve development productivity.

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • Knowledge of life sciences or a strong interest in learning about the domain.

  • Familiarity with cloud security monitoring tools such as AWS GuardDuty and Security Hub..
