About DataXight
DataXight, headquartered in Mountain View, CA, is on a bold mission to transform life science and healthcare through groundbreaking data-driven software solutions. We're passionate about empowering our team to work on projects that not only push boundaries but also make a tangible difference in the lives of millions. Are you ready to be part of something greater?
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our digital transformation team and help build scalable, data-driven solutions across the business.
The role offers a unique growth path: you’ll start with a strong Data Analytics focus, then gradually take ownership of broader Data Engineering initiatives as our data platform evolves.
In the short term, you’ll work on SQL analysis, reporting, dashboards, data modeling, and translating business needs into actionable insights. Over time, you’ll move deeper into building data pipelines, optimizing Spark workloads, automating workflows, and developing scalable data infrastructure. We welcome Data Engineers who enjoy getting close to the business and are excited to grow from analytics into deeper engineering ownership.
Key Responsibilities
Data Engineer - Career Focus

Analytics Enablement: Partner directly with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate analytical requirements into reliable, query-ready datasets and data models.
Data Orchestration & Processing: Implement and manage complex automated workflows using orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Nextflow) and optimize large-scale data processing using engines like Spark, Clickhouse, or Trino.
Drive Engineering Maturity: Lead the gradual transition from an ad-hoc, "analytics-first" workflow to one with rigorous data engineering standards, including version control, CI/CD, automated testing, and data governance.
Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot system failures, and continuously tune query performance and pipeline efficiency across the data platform.
Data Quality & Reliability: Establish robust monitoring, alerting, and validation frameworks to ensure high data integrity and proactively resolve data discrepancies.
Must-have Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or a related technical field.
Core Technologies: Strong programming skills in Python and advanced SQL profiling/optimization (able to understand execution plan).
Data Architecture: Solid background working with large-scale data, modern data platforms, and analytics workflows.
Processing & Orchestration: Practical experience implementing data processing engines (Spark, ClickHouse, Trino) and building pipelines using orchestration tools (Airflow, Nextflow).
Mindset & Culture: Comfortable navigating an "analytics-first" environment while actively taking ownership to build robust engineering practices over time.
Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities paired with clear cross-functional communication (able to translate technical concepts into actionable items)
