BS or MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or related discipline. PhD is desirable.
Strong understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and modern bioinformatics algorithms.
Experience using widely adopted bioinformatics tools such as PLINK, Regenie, BWA, SAMtools, GATK, BCFtools, Nextflow, or similar.
Experience designing or evaluating bioinformatics workflows for large-scale genomic or multi-omics datasets.
Strong understanding of biological data formats including FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, VCF, GTF/GFF, AnnData, or equivalent.
Experience validating scientific software and ensuring reproducibility.
Programming proficiency in Python and/or R.
Ability to communicate complex biological concepts to software engineers who may not have domain expertise.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
NICE TO-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark.
Experience deploying bioinformatics software to cloud platforms.
Familiarity with scalable workflow execution systems.
Experience with multi-omics analysis.
Experience contributing to open-source bioinformatics software.
Experience working alongside software engineering teams building production systems.
Experience with AI-assisted software development.
Knowledge of variant calling and how RNAseq proteomics are processed.
Help optimize built-in functions, e.g. RNAseq normalization in order to perform a differential gene expression analysis.
SCIENTIFIC LEADERSHIP
Act as the authoritative scientific reviewer for architecture and implementation decisions affecting bioinformatics workflows.
Establish standards for biological data quality, metadata consistency, and reproducibility.
Develop validation strategies to ensure transformed software maintains functional equivalence with the original applications.
Partner with product managers and software architects to prioritize scientific capabilities and roadmap decisions.
