The Role

Many high-value analytical applications were originally designed for single-node or limited-scale execution and struggle to efficiently process today’s increasingly large and complex datasets. This role focuses on transforming those applications into scalable, distributed solutions running on a Spark-based cloud platform.

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Software Engineer with a strong focus on Python, back-end architecture, cloud computing (preferably AWS), and familiarity with distributed computing systems, particularly Apache Spark and PySpark. You will spearhead, develop, and integrate software components to create seamless, efficient solutions that advance life sciences. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with multinational teams, expanding your professional horizons.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer who can operate independently, lead new, complex technical initiatives, and make sound architectural decisions in ambiguous, high-impact problem spaces. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable adapting to various time zones, particularly those in the US and EU, to facilitate effective collaboration with our international partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and provide input on system architectures, contribute to coding standards, and mentor junior engineers.

  • Work with various teams to ensure software solutions meet business requirements, international standards, and objectives.

  • Tackle complex software development and integration challenges, optimizing system performance.

  • Create high-quality Python code and integrate diverse software components into cohesive solutions, with a focus on cloud computing and life sciences applications.

  • Keep up-to-date with new technologies and Python frameworks, particularly in cloud computing.

  • Oversee testing, deployment, and comprehensive documentation of integrated systems.

  • Actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle. This includes creating user stories and engaging in sprint planning to align development efforts with business objectives.

  • Engage with multinational companies, demonstrating flexibility to occasionally adapt to US and EU time zones.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Python programming, and its technologies.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Software Engineering.

  • Experience with Relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Experience in CICD Tools: Able to design/maintain pipelines.

  • Experience in Unit/Integration testing.

  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities for complex software development and integration issues.

  • Exemplary communication skills for effective cross-cultural and cross-time zone collaboration.

  • Experience in mentoring less experienced engineers.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional Working Proficiency in English.

  • Willingness to adjust working hours occasionally to collaborate with colleagues in US and European time zones.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience in distributed computing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, PySpark).

  • Experience with NodeJS or Go is highly preferred, particularly for building APIs or integrating with cloud-based services.

  • Understanding authentication/authorization (OAuth2 / SAML).

  • Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologies.

  • We highly value experience in MLOps, ML infrastructure, and model training.
