The Role

We’re seeking a dedicated Senior Data Engineer to join our digital transformation team. You’ll build and optimize data pipelines, develop robust data models, and deliver reliable analytics layers that power insights across the company. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with multinational companies and large health and genomics datasets such as the United Kingdom Biobank, expanding your professional horizons. The ideal candidate will be comfortable adapting to various time zones occasionally, particularly those in the US and EU.

This position required onsite work in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Key Responsibilities

  • Distillation of Business Requirements: Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders, establish design principles, and build a fit-for-purpose data architecture.

  • Data Pipelines Design and Implementation: Develop ETL/ELT solutions using Amazon S3, Data Migration Services (DMS), AWS Glue, Lambda, Spark, Python to process data from multiple sources.

  • SQL & Querying: Write and optimize complex SQL queries for analytics, pipelines, and dashboards.

  • Automating Data Workflows: Implementing automation tools and techniques to streamline data processing tasks.

  • Data Validation: Ensure data quality and consistency across systems through validation and reconciliation.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Working closely with data scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements.

  • Documentation: Maintain clear, thorough documentation for data flows, models, and processes.

Requirements

Professional Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Operations, Software Engineering or Bioinformatics.

  • Communication: Comfortable working with technical and non-technical teams in English. 

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Software Engineering: Strong programming skills in Python (Pandas, numpy, etc.), Bash/Shell scripting, and familiarity with Agile development. Experience using Git for versioning code,pipeline configurations, and CI/CD for testing.

  • Data Engineering: Proficiency in building and maintaining ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines. Proficiency in SQL for data ingestion and data query.

  • Data QC & Review: Detail-oriented data review, including experience with implementing automated Quality Control (QC) checks.

Nice to Have

The skills below are a plus, but we’ll train candidates who are curious and eager to learn.

  • Bioinformatics Workflow Management: Experience with bioinformatics workflow languages is a massive plus, specifically Nextflow or WDL.

  • Data Governance & Compliance: Understanding of data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR) and experience handling PHI (Protected Health Information) securely.

  • Bioinformatics/Data Science: Ability to recognize, validate, and process standard bioinformatics file formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF, FASTA, etc.) and familiar with secondary/tertiary data analysis and tools (mapping, variant calling, GWAS, etc.) and strong summarization and presentation skills.

  • Global Collaboration: Experience staying in alignment with a global team (US and Czech colleagues) and managing coordinated projects asynchronously.
